Under Dr. Lin Ching-Chiang imputes, modern scientific research of sociology of education in Taiwan has gone alone more than 30 years. Not only do we have runaway results, but research team grows swiftly. During May 15th and 16th in 1999, research and teaching staff of sociology of education in Taiwan joined the first “Forum of Sociology of Education” hold by National Chung Cheng University, after that, this academic discussion will be hold every 6 months by different higher education institutes by turns. One year later, Taiwan Association for the Sociology of Education (TASE) was established in June 24th, 2000, general meeting in National Taiwan Normal University. The “Forum of Sociology of Education” also became one of affair activities of TASE.
TASE is an academic society aims to study theories, application and related issues of sociology of education. Although in terms the size of members TASE is moderate, it has been a well known society. It issues Taiwan Journal of Sociology of Education that is recognized as one of top academic journals in Taiwan. Our mission included:
To promote the theoretical construction and empirical research of the sociology of education, and to develop forward-looking research methods and perspectives.
To integrate domestic educational research experiences and engage in comparative analysis and dialogue with international trends in the sociology of education.
To facilitate collaboration and connections between Taiwanese and international academic institutions and researchers in the field of the sociology of education.
To focus on the historical evolution and global trends of disciplinary theory, and to deepen the academic positioning of the sociology of education.
To provide recommendations and references for educational policy formulation and practical reforms through research outcomes.
Comprising 15 directors and 5 supervisors, conference of board of director and supervisor will be hold every season, and the first president was Prof. Kuei-His Chen. The current president is Professor Amy Shumin Chen. Secretary department including divisions of academic, general administration, and accounting is responsible to impel the related conference affair. Secretary general is Associate Professor Yin Hung Hsu. Editorial board is responsible to publish «Taiwan Journal of Sociology of Education» one volume two numbers one year. Its editor in chief is Professor Yung Ming Shu.

Running Forum of Sociology of Education annually.
Issuing newsletters to our members regularly.
Forum of Sociology of Education has invited world renowned education sociologists to participate in its annual events, such as Michael Apple from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Carlos Torres and Peter McLaren from UCLA, Michael Young and Geoff Whitty of London University, Brian Davies of Wales University, and Maurice Galton from Cambridge University. Besides exchanging ideas, friendships and cooperation are also mutual. TASE has established concrete relationships with relevant societies in China and Japan.
TASE has contributed significantly towards research standard promotion of sociology of education in Taiwan through holding activities, communicating with members and teachers, and so on. Sociology of education is not only containing macro and micro thinking, but also mingled with experience and theory approaches. Therefore, TASE have developmental potential of reforming and creating. In the future, TASE will play a much more dynamic role.
